Beyond Lip Service: Today we welcome Michael Grinder, a foremost authority on non-verbal communication. Today, we will learn how we can apply non-verbal understanding to using/enhancing our “perception.” I love the expression, If you can see half of what you look at–you are good. If you know which half to look at–you are a genius. We will walk away with perception skills so we can immediately see better and know how to interpret what they see. Later in this interview we will explore some programs that are coming up where our listeners can actually practice these skills so they have them for long-term benefits.” We need to caution our listeners that we will be restricting ourselves to non-verbal communication. Most popular books about non-verbal communication entertain the reader with interpretations of other people’s non-verbals. My interest is to have participants understand how their non-verbals affect others. I. What is perception and when we can trust our instincts? II. How to improve our perceptions III. How to interpret our perceptions Focus on taking action in your life. It is widely cited that verbal communication makes up only 7% of a total message during a conversation. That is, 93% percent of the meaning within the conversation comes from outside the words that we use. These non-verbal aspects of communication include gestures, posture, intonation, and facial expressions. It turns out the concrete language is by far the least important factor in our interpretation and understanding of what the other person saying. A similar phenomenon happens in organizations. Consider that the equivalent to verbal communication in organizations are the formal words that come to employees in the form of official documents: values and mission statements, strategy, policies, newsletters, websites, announcements, press releases, and other communication devices. The rest of internal communication comes from everything else employees experience. Similar to a conversation, the vast majority of meaning and understanding is generated by “non-verbal” communication. Tune in to hear where to look for “non-verbal” communication cues in your organization.

Do we sometimes focus so much on words that we miss the actions? Would you rather hears the words "I love you" or would you rather feel it? Does the word have more weight than the action of the word? Real talk by real women... We cover it all!
Communication is an essential element of all beings. How we communicate, or the manner in which we communicate is indicative of the message we wish to transmit. Conscious communication - verbal and written - are direct and meant to relay an obvious message to its recipients. However, there are more sinister forms of non-verbal communication meant to communicate with the sub-conscious minds. The effects of these forms of communication become evident in the collective consciousness of humanity in which the general society becomes susceptible to ideas. We will see how this works in this broadcast.
